On The Day
The Old Station Buildings on Berry Lane will act as the hub for Create Longridge day.
Artists will be registering from 8am at The Old Station Buildings. When they have their canvasses verified as being blank at the start, we will also be mapping each artist’s painting location so visitors to Create Longridge can plan a route taking in as many artists as they want. Maps will be available for visitors to take away. Each artist will have a blue balloon to tie to their easels, so if you don’t have a map, watch out for the balloons!
The textile fringe event will start at 9am at Towneley Gardens. This year’s event is for all ages so please feel free to drop in and participate. Full details are available from Cath Reid at Oh Sew Crafty on Berry Lane.
St Wilfrid’s RC Primary school will be hosting a number of events on the day. There will be pottery sessions for children aged 9 - 13 years and art classes with the theme “My Longridge” for 5 – 9 year olds. Everyone taking part will be able to take home own work at the end of the day and the potters will get their hands on the famous wheel. Registration is available from Longridge Gallery and there are morning and afternoon sessions.
Also at St Wilfrid’s there will be an urban art class for 10 – 14 year olds. Lead by art teacher Laura Dent this is your opportunity to literally “paint the town red”, or blue or green or whatever other colour you choose. It should be a highly creative session. Finally, there will be three sessions of painting on silk, two for children aged 9 – 13 years and one for adults. This is a beautiful, decorative and delicate art form and a great experience for those who have not tried it before. No prior experience is required, just come along and create your own silk masterpiece! Registration is available from Longridge Gallery.
2018 will see the first ever Create Longridge in Words activity. Hosted at Longridge Library, writers and poets will be invited to pen new short stories and poems from scratch on the day, just like the painting competition. The theme for the writing will only be disclosed on Create Longridge day from 9am at the Library. After the writing concludes at 1pm the works will be performed by the authors in Longridge later that afternoon. We’re really excited about this fringe activity because it means that those who may not feel too painterly can now come along and get involved in something creative. No registration is required and the activity is open to all but obviously children need to be supervised throughout their participation.
Artists have the opportunity to paint until 6pm although they are able to submit finished work from 4pm. Completed paintings will be returned to the Conservative Club on Berry Lane. Judging will start at 6:15pm. The announcement of the winning painting will be made on Create Longridge day in the Conservative Club between 7:30pm and 8pm. Artists and visitors are welcome to congregate in the bar there awaiting the announcement of the winner.
An exhibition and sale of all the paintings created on the day will start on Sunday 15th July from noon – 3:30pm at Longridge Gallery, 78 Berry Lane and potentially other venues depending on the overall number of entries. The exhibition runs for a week thereafter.
